Field Trip to Solol Museum
On July 19–20, 2023, undergraduate researcher from the Spatial Experience Lab participated in a two-day field study visiting three sites of spatial and cultural significance: Solol Museum, Arte Museum Gangneung, and Ojukheon.
The itinerary was designed to expose students to a range of spatial narratives—from contemporary media-based exhibition design to traditional Korean architectural heritage. At Solol Museum, participants engaged with site-responsive spatial curation and architectural integration with the surrounding natural landscape. At Arte Museum, a media art venue, students explored the immersive interplay of light, sound, and projection in shaping spatial perception. Finally, the visit to Ojukheon, the birthplace of Confucian scholar Yulgok Yi I and his mother Shin Saimdang, offered a historical perspective on Korean timber architecture, domestic space, and cultural symbolism.
Through guided observation, documentation, and discussion, the students deepened their understanding of how spatial experience is constructed across different temporal, cultural, and technological contexts.
