‘공간 안에서’ Released

We are pleased to announce the Korean translation of Space Within by Robert McCarter, now available under the title 『공간 안에서』.

In this compelling work, architect and critic Robert McCarter challenges conventional metrics of architectural success. Echoing Alvar Aalto’s belief that the true test of architecture lies not in its appearance on opening day but in the experience of living within it decades later, McCarter asserts that interior spatial experience must be the starting point—and ultimate measure—of architectural design.

The book traces the central role of interior space in shaping modern architecture from the late 19th century to the present, revealing how leading architects have prioritised inhabitation and sensory experience in their design processes. With rich descriptions and critical insight, Being-In-Space reorients our focus from external forms to the embodied, temporal, and emotional dimensions of interior space.

The Korean edition was translated and edited by Professor Keunhye Lee as part of the ongoing “Spatial Studies Series” and aims to offer students, educators, and practitioners in interior architecture a renewed theoretical lens through which to consider the lived experience of space.
