Field Trip to Sayuwon

On May 28, members of the Spatial Experience Lab conducted the first field trip of 2025 to Sayuwon, a privately owned garden and cultural space located in Gunwi, North Gyeongsang Province.

This visit brought together a diverse group from the lab, including undergraduate researcher, master's students, and alumni, creating a valuable opportunity for intergenerational dialogue and shared reflection. Sayuwon, known for its carefully curated landscape and spatial composition, provided a rich setting for observing how natural elements, topography, and architectural insertions come together to evoke a meditative spatial experience.

The field trip served as a reflective moment within our ongoing inquiry into the relationship between landscape, memory, and embodied experience. Participants engaged in on-site sketching, note-taking, and discussion, deepening their understanding of spatial atmosphere beyond formal design education.
